Here we will show you how to quickly and easily activate Microsoft Windows 10 using a product key. These instructions are applicable to any version of Windows 10.
Following this method you can activate the evaluation version and upgrade or downgrade between Windows editions.
Windows 10 has a variety of editions:
Baseline editions include Windows 10 Home, Professional, Pro Workstation.
Organizational editions include Windows 10 Education, Pro Education, Enterprise & Enterprise LTSC.
Discontinued editions include Windows 10 Mobile, Mobile Enterprise, IoT Mobile, S and 10X.
*Regional editions such as Single Language can be upgraded to Windows 10 Home edition for free.
Need a Windows Product Key?
Step 1:
Open Settings
Click on the Start button to bring up the start menu. On the left you will see a gear icon, when if hovered on will expand to show the ‘Settings’ text. Click on the Gear icon to bring up the settings window.
Step 2:
Settings > Update & Security
The settings window will display all the main setting categories. Scroll down to- and click on the last option which will be named Update & Security.
Step 3:
Activation Settings
On the panel to the left you will see various setting groups / subcategories. Find the one that says Activation and click on it.
Now you should be able to see a blue text button that says Change product key. Click on change product key and click yes on the UAC pop-up.
Step 4:
Enter License Key
A new small window will now be visible, asking you to enter a product key. Enter your Windows product key, click on next and follow the on-screen instructions (if any).
Step 5:
Success!
Wait for the automatic processes to finish and you’re all set!
If you are upgrading editions, Windows will automatically install updates and additional features.
Congratulations! Your Windows is now Activated!
*Available features will depend on the edition of the license key that you have just loaded.
*Activation does not require the system to restart, but you may need to restart if additional features were installed.
